“If I told patients to raise their blood levels of immune globulins or killer T-cells, no one would know how. But if I can teach them to love themselves and others fully, the same change happens automatically. The truth is: Love heals.” -Bernie Siegal, MD by Karyn Bender | Oct 2, 2015 | Facebookvia Karyn Bender RPh...
Healers are an essential part of our communities. They hold wisdom and knowledge that helps us reconnect with one another. With such a large task, it’s common for healers to become exhausted by their practice. In order to stay grounded and take care of oneself, it’s important for healers to find self-care practices that leave them feeling rested and rejuvenated. One of the first things to fall by the wayside when caring for others is our nutrition. It’s important for healers to take the time to listen to their bodies, so that they can nourish themselves while caring for others. A diet that is full of vegetables and whole grains can help healers avoid the effects of chronic stress. If you are a busy healer, then chances are you’ll want to have a self-care plan in place before you feel burnt out. If you are already feeling burnt out, then you may want to take a self-care assessment, which looks at the time you are setting aside to be with yourself. This includes anything from a walk on the beach to spending time with those you love. The best self-care plans help you tap into your authentic self and leave you feeling calm and rejuvenated. by Karyn Bender | Sep 21, 2015 | Facebookvia Karyn Bender RPh...
Most of us choose to become healing professionals because we have a strong desire to help others. Many of us have also had our own personal experiences with illness, and with the help of good healthcare providers, we were able to get our lives back on track. Sometimes, though, we get so involved in helping others with their healing process that we forget to take care of ourselves. It’s extremely important to keep yourself emotionally, physically, and spiritually healthy. The old adage that you should “put the oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others” is true for everyone, but especially for those who’ve chosen the path of a healer. If you become ill or experience burn out, you won’t be able to help anyone else, so practicing self-care will benefit both you and your clients. Good self-care practices include eating a healthy diet, exercise, quiet time for introspection, cultivating mindfulness, and meditation. Creating a good support system is also a must for every healer. Your health and wellness is just as important as your clients. by Karyn Bender | Sep 7, 2015 | Facebookvia Karyn Bender RPh...
Most health-related innovation talks about the power of mindfulness, which might have you asking – What’s all that about? Unlike other health claims, mindfulness has been repeatedly shown across multiple studies to have a positive effect on your health, from less stress and anxiety to building positive coping skills. Most individuals are continually operating in an automatic state, which can be called a state of mindlessness. In order to break out of habitual ways of being, mindfulness can help us see where unhealthy behaviors are negatively impacting our lives. Numerous research studies have shown how the awake presence that is cultivated when practicing mindfulness results in self-regulation and overall well-being. In a study published in the American Psychological Association, researchers found improvements in clarity, attention, flexibility, and self-consciousness after study participants practiced mindfulness-based techniques. This study uncovered a correlation between mindfulness and well-being that helps prove the power of cultivating an awake presence. by Karyn Bender | Aug 24, 2015 | Facebookvia Karyn Bender RPh...
